Previously, Ms. Brewer worked as a teacher supervisor for the Department of Juvenile Services. Early on in her career, she worked in the Baltimore City Public School System. Over the years, she has held such roles as Coordinator of the Mathematics Elementary Laboratory, Academic Coach of Mathematics and Science, Manager, Teacher, Coordinator of the Just Say No to Drugs Program, and Coordinator of the Discipline Center.
Other career-related positions she has held include advisory board member and coordinator for Echo Hill Outdoor School, supervisor teacher for student teachers at Towson University, the University of Notre Dame, and Coppin State University, resource teacher for the Maryland State Department of Education, teacher supervisor and special education teacher for the Department of Juvenile Services, Coordinator of the Heads Up Program, leadership teacher for the STARS Science Program, and Baltimore City Public School System's Write to Learn Program.
As a child, she always loved school, and when she finally ended up in the public school system, she found herself really enjoying working with special needs students because she saw their progress from September to June.
Ms. Brewer is a Certified Elementary Teacher and a Certified Special Education Teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Education in correctional education and a Master of Education in special education from Coppin State University, where she later returned to complete postgraduate coursework. For her professional accomplishments, she has been awarded for her work with a Teacher of the Year Award, and a Freedoms Foundation Award. She was also recognized by Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. as Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 1993. Looking toward the future, Ms. Brewer intends to continue helping children with and without special needs to the best of her abilities.
