A talented economist, business forecaster and applied econometrician who integrates statistics and mathematics into economic analysis, Dr. Lin is a professor of operations management and strategy at The State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo. Having taught at the university since 1975, he formerly worked in the field as a senior economist with John Deere & Company and as a research assistant fellow with the Academy Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan. Dr. Lin's current research interests include production and operations management, information systems, multinational finance, and business forecasting and predictive analytics.
Earning his undergraduate degree at National Taiwan University in 1966, Dr. Lin then relocated to the U.S. in 1970, where he completed both a master's degree in 1972 and a PhD at Northwestern University in 1976. A longstanding member of the Decision Sciences Institute, the Econometric Society, the Eastern Finance Association, the American Mathematics Association and the American Economic Association. The author of the book "The Productive Efficacy of Industries in Taiwan and China," Dr. Lin has also authored nearly 100 scholarly articles in leading professional and academic journals and has contributed two research book chapters and two scholarly books. His papers have been presented at more than 83 national and international conferences as well.
Dr. Lin has been the recipient of several research grants and awards from such organizations as the New York State Health Research Council, the Pacific Cultural Foundation, and the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation. Additionally, he was the recipient of a 2015 Honorable Mention for the Institute for Supply Management Best Paper Award, a 2013 Best Interdisciplinary Paper Award at the 44th National Conference of the Decision Sciences Institute, a 2004 Excellent Scholar/Sustained Achievement Award from SUNY at Buffalo, and a 2001 Best Paper Award from the Multinational Finance Society.
Dr. Lin has been highlighted in every edition of Who's Who in America since 2011, as well as the 21st edition of Who's Who in the East. Married to Wendy W. Szu Lin since November 1967 with one son, Dr. Lin enjoys fishing and listening to classical music in his down time.
