The founder of Qutronics, a company devoted to developing materials for molecular electronic devices, in Yorktown, NY, since 2003, Dr. Aviram is a tenured research scientist who earned his credentials while employed for 33 years at the Thomas J. Watson Research Center at IBM as a member of their research staff. Serving as the headquarters of IBM Research, the Center is one of the largest industrial research organizations in the world with 12 laboratories on six continents, where scientists like Dr. Aviram have been pioneering scientific breakthroughs on today's most promising and disruptive technologies.
Responsible for several inventions, including molecular rectifiers that lead to the development of the field of molecular electronics, materials for lithography and a new electronic color printing technology, as well as many technologically important materials and devices which have resulted in 79 patents and patent publications, Dr. Aviram has made quite an impact in his field. Between 1989 and 2006, Dr. Aviram was actively involved as an organizer for 11 different conferences on molecular electronics with the Engineering Foundation.
In 1989 Dr. Aviram published a groundbreaking paper on molecular field-effect-transistors and his research has resulted in contributions to numerous peer-reviewed journals. He is author of "Co-Developed Theory of Molecular Rectifiers" published in 1974. He was also longtime editor of conference proceedings of the conferences that he organized, including two that were published by The New York Academy of Science. For several years he served as an editor of IBM's Journal of Research and Development. Honored for his contributions with an award at the Conference on Molecular Electronics in San Diego, CA, in 2006, Dr. Aviram holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Israel Institute of Technology and a master's degree and doctorate in theoretical chemistry from New York University.
