ATHENS, GA, July 31, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Roger Vogel, PhD with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Vogel celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Vogel has been a professor emeritus of music at the University of Georgia since 2012. Prior to his retirement he served at the University of Georgia as professor of music from 1996 to 2012, associate professor from 1982 to 1996, and assistant professor from 1976 to 1982.
Initially intending to pursue a career in engineering, Dr. Vogel was inspired by his love of music to change his focus to music composition. He began his career as a student at the Ohio State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Music in 1971. He continued his studies at the school, completing a Master of Arts in 1972 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1975. Like many musicians he accepted an academic position and continued to compose as well as teach.
Dr. Vogel is particularly proud of many of the works that he has written, including an oboe and bassoon duo that has been performed for more than 30 years, though he credits the talent of the performers for making it as successful as is was. In addition, he wrote a work entitled "Things Fall Apart," after the novel by Chinua Achebe, which uses both sung and spoken word with musical accompaniment. Dr. Vogel is fond of evoking the emotion found in the texts of his vocal works, and his song cycle "Love Letters" has several movements that have been known to inspire moist eyes in audiences.
Throughout his career, Dr. Vogel has been recognized for his contributions to the field. He was the recipient of an Albert Christ-Janer Award from the University of Georgia, and in the Delius Composition Competition he received a keyboard category prize as well as a voice category prize. In his free time, Dr. Vogel enjoys photography.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Roger Vogel has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
