Dr. Kantor has been recognized as professor emeritus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst since 2000
FEEDING HILLS, MA, July 31, 2018 July 31, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Simon Kantor, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Kantor celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Kantor has been recognized as professor emeritus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst since 2000, having been a professor of chemistry since 1982. Prior to joining the school, he was vice president of research and development with the GAF Corporation from 1972 to 1982. Earlier in his career, he worked with the GE Research and Development Center as a research associate from 1951 to 1960, as a section manager from 1960 to 1965, and as a branch manager from 1965 to 1972.
Dr. Kantor began his career as a student at the City College of New York, where he was initially a math major. However, he developed an interest in chemistry and obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1945. He went on to study at Duke University, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry in 1949, and serving in a postdoctoral fellowship until 1951.
A respected leader in the field, Dr. Kantor is well known for a number of inventions he contributed to while working in the laboratory. He helped propel the field of organosilicon science, and he was instrumental in the development of high-temperature aromatic polymers, including fire-safe polymers used in airliners. However, he considers the highlights of his career to have been the switch from field work to teaching, which he had no intention of doing initially but found that his position with GAF Corporation was a casualty of business. The recipient of a Ward Medal for Highest Achievement in Chemistry from the City College of New York, Dr. Kantor now enjoys his retirement and likes playing bridge in his free time.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Kantor has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
