Mrs. Magazine is a retired health care consultant who held her own private practice as principal of Penrose Magazine LLC until 2001. Formerly serving in a number of roles during her near three-decade long career, including several roles with United Healthcare, she has also worked for MetraHealth, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, and several other organizations dating back to 1973. Although health care was still very much a man's world when it comes to the health care industry, Mrs. Magazine proved that a woman can push through and still make a difference if she works hard enough at it.
Active with multiple organizations during her career, Mrs. Magazine served on the board of directors for the National Institute for Medical Options, as treasurer, a member of the board of directors and secretary of the American Hospice Foundation, and as chairman of the program advisory committee of the Resource Center for Women in Palo Alto. Once she retired, she began volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia. After her first experience building a home, she later discovered the need to create a Habitat Re-Store. Putting together a team of volunteers, she was actively involved in the process. Mrs. Magazine was later awarded with a Cynthia Penrose Magazine Re-Store Award for her dedication. She also served on various other boards of directors, including for Unique Enterprises, Wesley Housing Development Corporation and both Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia, and Habitat Re-Store. She continues to serve as co-founder and co-chair of the Fountain Hills Liberal Ladies since 2011 and is a 2017 graduate of Fountain Hills Leadership Academy. Liberal Ladies promotes the Democratic community in Fountain Hills, supports their values, goals and activities and encourages and supports Democratic candidates. Furthermore, Mrs. Magazine is an active member of the League of Women Voters, the Friends in the Hills Welcome Club, the Fountain Hills Liberal Ladies as co-chair, among others, and is a former member, board of directors and president of the Fountain Hills Library Association.
She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of California at Berkeley in 1963, MBA at the University of Santa Clara in 1977, and a certificate in social work from the University of California at Berkeley. She is married to Alan H. Magazine and has two children and four grandchildren. Notably, she has been cited in more than 30 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
