With years of industry experience to his credit, Dr. Cho has worked as a chief development officer at LegoChem Biosciences, Inc. since 2006. In this position, he excelled in the research and development of small molecule antibiotics and anti-tuberculosis drugs. Previously, Dr. Cho held the position of scientist for the LG Life Science Research Institute from 2001 to 2006, during which time he developed beta secretion inhibitors for Alzheimer disease.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Cho pursued an education at Yonsei University in 1990, earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Science in organic chemistry in 1994, also at Yonsei University. Following these accomplishments, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry at Yonsei University in 1999. Dr. Cho concluded his studies with postdoctoral coursework at the Scripps Research Institute from 1999 to 2000 and the Salk Institute from 2000 to 2001.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Cho has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He has contributed to many presentations, conferences and symposiums for a number of respected events in his industry, including the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy and the Annual Meeting of the Korean Chemical Society. Dr. Cho has also held many patents, most notably for the invention and development of Delpazolid, an anti-tuberculosis drug currently in phase two clinical trials and GT-1, an anti Gram-negative infection drug, currently in preparation for an IND application.
Dr. Cho has found success with his written works as well, having authored myriad articles for such esteemed publications as Drug Design, Development and Therapy, the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, the Journal of Organic Chemistry and the Journal of the American Chemical Society. In addition to his primary trade, he remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise, including the American Society for Microbiology. Furthermore, Dr. Cho completed a year of service in the Republic of Korea Army before receiving a medical discharge.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Cho has received several accolades throughout his impressive career. He was presented with the Outstanding Research Paper Award from Yonsei University in 1996. Most recently, Dr. Cho was honored with a Presidential Citation and the National R&D Performance Evaluation Award in 2017.
