Dr. Clark is a professor emeritus, having retired from Auburn University in 2013, who taught in the political science department for 20 years and also served as the director of the MPA program, alumni professor of political science and department head. Prior to joining the university, he spent 11 years teaching at the University of Wyoming, where he twice served as the director of international studies, and nine years teaching in the department of government at New Mexico State University.
Looking back, Dr. Clark chose academia as a result of his own academic talent, as well as his passion for research. Dr. Clark earned his undergraduate degree at Beloit College in 1966. Seven years later, after having taught for a year, he earned a PhD in political science at the University of Illinois in 1973. Outside of his work in the classroom, Dr. Clark served as an external reviewer for the political science graduate programs at Missouri State University and the University of West Florida, and he was as an initial senior fellow for the center for government services at Auburn University. He also lectured on U.S. Foreign Economic Policy for the Academy of International Economic Affairs, the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Department of State, and he was a member of the advisory council for the Department of Health for the State of Wyoming.
A prolific writer, Dr. Clark recently authored "A Straight Jacket for Sarah" in 2018 and "The Black Angels" in 2015 through All Things That Matter Press. He has contributed multiple publications as co-author and co-editor and has authored/co-authored approximately 270 articles in scholarly journals as well. Notably, "The Black Angels" was included at the Alabama Book Festival in 2017. A longtime member of several professional organizations throughout his career, Dr. Clark was president of the American Association for Chinese Studies, executive director of the International Studies Association/West and a member of the executive board of the American Association for Chinese Studies.
Honored many times for his achievements, Dr. Clark recently received an Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award by the Student Government Association in 2012, an Appreciation Award from the East Alabama chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators in 2012 and a Minority Achievement Award from Auburn University in 2007. He was also inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Kappa Society and Phi Eta Sigma. He has been married to Janet Morrissey Sentz since 1968, and they have three children and five grandchildren. Dr. Clark has been cited in more than 50 editions of Marquis Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in American Politics.
