For nearly 54 years, Ms. Byrd has excelled in the field of nursing. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Baylor University, she began working as a nurse with Parkland Hospital. Subsequently, she worked at Baylor Medical Center as a nurse in gynecological services. Over the years, Ms. Byrd has gained experience with Collin Memorial Hospital, St. Paul Hospital, the District 4 Texas Nurse Association, as a school nurse for the Dallas Independent School District, and as Director of Health Services at Dallas Baptist University.
Ms. Byrd authored "History of Dallas CPA Wives," "Biography of Mae Stoesser," and "Byrd Family 25 Years." Today, she remains connected with Baylor University as an advisor on their Dallas Woman's Council and serves on the Dean's Board of the nursing school. She served as Co-Chairman of the Centennial Reunion Committee for the 100th anniversary of the nursing school and was named to the "100 Legends on the Line." Ms. Byrd has served on seven task force committees in support of Going for the Gold Gala, an annual fundraiser for the nursing school.
Ms. Byrd has been recognized for her excellence in the field with the W.R. White Meritorious Service Award from the Baylor University Alumni Association, the Ruth Award from Dallas Baptist University, and the Woman of Distinction Award from Baylor University Women's Council of Dallas. In 2015, she was honored with the Good Samaritan Award by Dallas Baptist University.
She has served as a Trustee of Dallas Baptist University for nine years. Additionally, Ms. Byrd served on the Board of Visitors at Wake Forest University School of Divinity. In 2013, she established The Ellen Stoesser Byrd Endowed Scholarship Fund, which is given every year to an undergraduate student in the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing.
Ms. Byrd has been honored with features in Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
