NEW YORK, NY, August 09, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mr. Whitney with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Whitney celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Throughout his extensive career in the field of journalism, Mr. Whitney has reported for The New York Times in numerous locations abroad, including Moscow from 1977 to 1980, Vietnam from 1971 to 1973 and West Germany from 1973 to 1977. Mr. Whitney started his work for The New York Times in Washington in 1965 as an assistant to James Reston who, along with A. M. Rosenthal and Robert B. Semple Jr., influenced the development of his career at formative stages.

As he progressed as a journalist, Mr. Whitney became deputy foreign editor, assistant managing editor, Washington Bureau Chief, London Bureau Chief, and European diplomatic correspondent and Paris Bureau Chief for The New York Times, all the while demonstrating professional flexibility and passion. He became an assistant managing editor for the newspaper in 2000, a position in which he served until his retirement in 2009. Mr. Whitney's career with The New York Times was only interrupted by his military loyalty, serving as an officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve in Washington, D.C. from 1966 to 1968 and in the Republic of Vietnam from 1968 to 1969.

Interested in writing from a young age and influenced by his mother, who wrote a newspaper column, Mr. Whitney got started in his career by writing for a daily newspaper in Worcester, Massachusetts while he was studying at Harvard, where he earned an A.B., magna cum laude, in 1965. Mr. Whitney is a member of the New York City Harvard Club, the American Guild of Organists, and Grace Church (Episcopal) in Brooklyn, NY, where he lives with his wife, Adelheid Whitney. They have two children, Alexandra and Stefan, and four grandchildren.

Along with his significant work with The New York Times, Mr. Whitney has penned a variety of books, including "Spy Trader" in 1993, "All the Stops" in 2003, "The WMD Mirage" in 2005, "Living with Guns" in 2012 and "Unraveling Time" in 2016. Passionate about maintaining an organic connection to the world around him, he plays the piano and pipe organ and attributes many of the contacts he has made throughout his life to his devotion to music. Furthermore, Mr. Whitney has been selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Mr. Whitney has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
