Prior to this appointment, he held the position of international police advisor and mentor with DynCorp International on contract with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Defense. From 1990 to 2010, he served with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, where he worked in an undercover capacity in cases involving drug violations, major investigations, gang activity, and domestic terrorism before becoming a senior narcotics agent. Mr. Aster began his career in law enforcement, first as a patrol officer before moving into criminal investigation and narcotics.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Aster pursued an education at Bucks County Community College, completing coursework in 1976 and 1977. He has earned state certification in law enforcement in the field as well as law enforcement and criminal investigation at the Temple University Municipal Police Academy in conjunction with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Police Department. Likewise, Mr. Aster was certified as an international police instructor and National Incident Management for Law Enforcement.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Aster has participated in numerous endeavors in his community. Offering free training seminars to churches and synagogues following a recent church shooting in Texas, he has held the role of adjunct instructor for the Northeast Counterdrug Training Center as well as Top Gun for the Pennsylvania Narcotic Officers Association. Trained to perform as a certified firefighter in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with the Midway Volunteer Fire Department from 1975 to 1983, he has found much success with his written works, having authored "Written Staff Response to an Active Armed Assailant" in 2015. In 1981, Mr. Aster enlisted in the United States Army Reserve with a Combat Engineer Military Occupational Specialty, contributing as a noncommissioned officer until his honorable discharge in 1990.
In addition to his primary trade, Mr. Aster remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was formerly active as a board member of the Pennsylvania Narcotic Officers Association. He was also a longtime member of the Fraternal Board of Police. Mr. Aster has maintained involvement with the National Tactical Officers Association.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Aster has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He has been presented with multiple letters of commendation, including a Letter of Commendation from the Killology Research Group.
