Dr. Goodnick has been a practicing physician and psychiatrist for 40 years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, at the University of Pennsylvania followed by the Doctor of Medicine, with honors, at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He later completed his residency work at Washington University in Saint Louis and Columbia University in New York City as well as a fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. A diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Goodnick has taught academia for 32 years at Wayne State University, University of Chicago, Columbia University, the University of Miami, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Georgetown University, and currently at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center.

At the moment, for the past two years, Dr. Goodnick has been serving as specialist in Post Traumatic Service Disorders in the New York Harbor Veterans Affairs Hospital, Brooklyn Division. He formerly served as clinical education director and psychiatrist at the Washington DC VA Medical Center, was the director of clinical services at Carrier Clinic, and was director of the mood disorders program in the department of psychiatry at the University of Miami. Prior to his tenure at the University of Miami, he also spent several years as Director of Outpatient Services at the Fort Lauderdale Division of Fair Oaks Hospital. Dr. Goodnick has served as Consultant for the American Psychiatric Association Expert Guidelines on Treatment of Depression and on Treatment of Bipolar Disorder (1991, 1999) and on the Scientific Program Committee for the American Psychiatric Association (2003).

Dr. Goodnick has received several awards on campus as well as for teaching residents and received a special award from the residents for supervision. He received the Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association award in 2012. Other awards during his career have included a 2001 Lifetime William A Console Award in Teaching from SUNY Downstate Medical School and a 1987 Clinical Excellence Award from the New York Alliance for the Mentally Ill. A longtime member of the Association for the Advancement of Science, the Society of Biological Psychiatry, the New York Academy of Science, the American Academy of Clinical Psychiatry, and the Knights of Pythias, Dr. Goodnick is an elected fellow of the American Psychopathological Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the International Society of Affective Disorders.

The author/editor of several books, Dr. Goodnick received special recognition for Mania: Clinical and Research Perspectives which was released in 1998 and later became a featured text at the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association in 1999. He also served as the associate editor for the journal "Lithium" for five years and as editor for "Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy", "Expert Opinion on Drug Safety", and "Therapy". Dr. Goodnick is one of the founders of the Mesorah Society.

Born in Philadelphia, Dr. Goodnick received several recognitions while in high school. Serving as class representative and treasurer, he was honored with a Chemistry Award in 11th grade and received three awards in physics and for Hebrew Literature and Talmud in 12th grade. Notably, in 11th grade, Dr. Goodnick was a semi-professional dancer who raised money for various charities and earned the opportunity to visit the Embassy of Israel in Washington, DC. Many years later, he was able to visit the White House on two separate occasions during the Bush administration and has met with Vice President Pence on two separate occasions in 2016 who deeply respects the connections of Jews to Jerusalem. His lifetime special moments have further included : Addressing 5000-10000 people from the step of the Philadelphia Art Museum as Secretary-General of the World Union of Jewish Students on behalf of the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry while an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania, hours spent learning from Rabbi Abraham Levene of Lower Merion Synagogue, grandson of the World-renowned Righteous Man of Jerusalem, special moments with the Internationally Beloved Bostoner Rebbe Rabbi Levi Y Horowitz ZT"L, and above all, with his special father, Dr. Benjamin Goodnick, psychologist and well known writer and author-creator of the Association of Orthodox Jewish Scientists whose connection to G-d above in prayer and deed were legendary.

A proud father and grandfather, Dr. Goodnick has been cited in more than 60 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World.
