Mr. Haskell has been a partner of his own firm Haskell, Slaughter & Spratling LLC in Birmingham, AL, since 1973. Prior to this position, he worked as a staff attorney at Southern Natural Gas Company from 1971 to 1973 and as an associate at Bradley, Arant, Rose & White from 1966 to 1971, both located in Birmingham. He has also held a number of visiting positions at several institutions, including visiting professor at the University of Alabama School of Law from 1970 to 1973, visiting research assistant at University of Muenster in Germany from 1965 to 1966, and visiting lecturer at the National Association of Bond Lawyers, where they held an annual workshop and he served as chairman of one of their departments.
Mr. Haskell earned a Bachelor of Arts from Amherst College in 1961, and went on to earn a Jurist Doctorate from Yale Law School in 1965, the same year he passed the Alabama State Bar exam. Throughout his career, he has been an active member of the American, Alabama, and Birmingham Bar Associations, as well as the Mountain Brook Club. In addition, he is a generous supporter of the visual and performing arts and has served on the board of directors for various arts organizations, including the State of Alabama Ballet, the Alys Stephens Center, the Alabama Symphony Association, the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Folger Shakespeare Library and the Alabama Shakespeare Fest.
Mr. Haskell was inducted into the Association of Fundraising Professionals and was named an Outstanding Philanthropist by the City of Birmingham in 2005. He also received a Thomas Pope Fellowship from Trinity College, and has been listed in several editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the World.
