DORAL, FL, August 21, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Thomas E. Baker with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Baker celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Baker was always drawn to intellectual side of the law and had an affinity for teaching, so he pursued a career in legal education. He prepared for his career by obtaining a Bachelor of Science from Florida State University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with high honors, from the University of Florida. He began his career as a law clerk in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in Atlanta, GA. Throughout his career, he has also held positions such as professor of law, judicial fellow, acting administrative assistant to Chief Justice Rehnquist, and James Madison chair of constitutional law. Today, he serves as a member of the founding faculty of the College of Law at Florida International University. He also served as a committee member of the Journal of Legal Education. In addition to his primary positions, Mr. Baker has also been a visiting professor at the University of Florida and the College of William and Mary, and a Fulbright professor at the University of Athens in Greece.
Outside of his practical work in the field, Mr. Baker has authored and co-authored countless industry texts throughout his career. He has also sat on the editorial board of the Journal of Supreme Court History, and has contributed many articles to professional journals. As a testament to his professional expertise, Mr. Baker received the Faculty Research Award from Texas Tech University, the Spencer A. Wells University Teaching Award from the Student Bar Association Administration, the President's Award from Drake Law School, the Pioneer Award from Florida International University College of Law, the FIU Top Scholar Award, the FIU Top Presidential Recognition Award, the Outstanding Law Professor Award, and was a Justice Tom C. Clark Fellow of the Judicial Fellows. In addition to the support he has received from his wife, Jane Marie, Mr. Baker attributes his success to the mentors who influenced and directed the career path he chose to take. He was inspired to become a professor because of his work as research assistant with Fletcher N. Baldwin, a professor of constitutional law at the University of Florida. He also had an influential relationship with the late James C. Hill, Circuit Judge on the Court of Appeals, who was the first person Mr. Baker worked for when he completed law school.
Looking back on his rewarding career in law education, Mr. Baker finds that the most gratifying aspect has been when students seek him out to thank him for being a good teacher and mentor. This expression of gratitude always makes him feel fulfilled and validated as an educator. In addition, he is proud to know that many of his students have gone on to have very successful careers in the legal profession. Today, in order to remain alert of developments in his field, Mr. Baker is a fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and the American Bar Foundation. He also maintains affiliation with the American Law Institute, the American Judicature Society, the Order of the Coif, and the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars.
