Mr. Hemingway began working in the law industry in 1955 as an associate with Fulbright, Crooker, Freeman, Bates & Jaworski in Houston, TX. His interest in the field was piqued when he took law classes while in business school. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in business and a Doctor of Jurisprudence, magna cum laude, from Southern Methodist University, where he graduated at the top of his class. He then went on to practice as an attorney for five years. He also eventually obtained a Master of Laws from the University of Michigan and pursued the education sector of law. As a qualified professional, he was admitted to the Texas and Oklahoma State Bars in 1955 and 1981, respectively.
Academically, Mr. Hemingway has taught oil, gas and natural resources law at Bates College Law School, Baylor Law School, Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, Texas Tech University School of Law and the University of Oklahoma. He also served as acting dean at Texas Tech University School of Law and currently holds the title of professor emeritus at the University of Oklahoma.
In addition to his academic responsibilities, Mr. Hemingway authored several professional publications with the help of his wife. He also acted as a contributing editor of various law reports, cases and materials. He was the author of "West's Texas Forms (Mines and Minerals)" in 1977 and "The Law of Oil and Gas" in 1971. As a distinguished professional, Mr. Hemingway greatly enjoyed his accomplished career. Today, he maintains affiliation with the Texas Bar Association, the Order of the Coif and Beta Gamma Sigma.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Hemingway has accrued several accolades. Named Students of the University of Oklahoma Outstanding Professor in 1992, he was recognized as a Horn Professor at Texas Tech University in 1972. In addition, he was the recipient of the J. Woodall Rogers Senior Gold Medal and was a William S. Cook Fellow in 1968.
