With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Ms. Walsh retired in 2008, having served as a teacher with the Israel Putnam School since 1989. Prior to obtaining this role, she was a physical education teacher with the John Barry School from 1987 to 1989 and with the Williams and Douglas Schools from 1973 to 1978. Earlier in her career, Ms. Walsh was a physical education teacher with Carrigan Middle School from 1969 to 1970.
Ms. Walsh was inspired to pursue a career in the field by her own interest in physical activities and sports, as well as her desire to work with children. She began her career as a student at Southern Connecticut State College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1969 and a Master of Science in 1972. Ms. Walsh is certified as a K-8 elementary teacher, a K-12 health and physical education teacher, and as a personal trainer.
Ms. Walsh credits much of her success to the mentors she has had throughout her career, including her colleague Florence Case. She has also been encouraged by the enthusiasm of her students and their pride in showing off what they learn in her classes, and she enjoys receiving notes from former students whose lives she has impacted. In her free time, Ms. Walsh enjoys golfing, and coaching baseball and soccer.
