Prior to this appointment, he served Keimyung University in multiple capacities, including from assistant to full professor from 1987 to 2014, director of the Research Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship from 2011 to 2014, dean of the Graduate School of Education from 2007 to 2009, and dean of the Business School from 2000 to 2005. From 1993 to 2016, he held the positions of executive director and president for the University-Industry Research Institute. Dr. Choe began his career as a visiting and adjunct professor for the University of South Australia from 1998 to 2000.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Choe pursued an education at Keimyung University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in business administration in 1972. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Business Administration in 1974, also at Keimyung University. Following these accomplishments, he received a Master of Science in organizational behavior from the University of Illinois in 1982. Dr. Choe concluded his studies at New York University in 1987, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in management and organization science.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Choe has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He held the roles of advisor for The Daegu Bank Ltd. from 1995 to 1998 and the Daegu-Kyungpook Branch of the Bank of Korea from 2002 to 2008. Furthermore, Dr. Choe completed service with the Republic of Korea Army from 1975 to 1978.
Dr. Choe found success with his written works as well, having penned such works as "The New Paradigm of University-Industry Cooperation at Age of Knowledge-based Society" in 2000, "The Evolution of University-Industry Cooperation System of Major Countries" in 2000, "Readings in Organization Theory" in 2005, "Readings in Korean Management and Asian Business" in 2005, and "Creative Management" in 2005. Most recently, he authored "Organization Design—Theory and Practice" in 2013 and "Ethical Management—Theory and Practice" in 2011 and 2017. From 1998 to 2002, he was an editor for the Asian Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship. Dr. Choe has also contributed many articles to esteemed publications and journals, as well as presentations for conferences in his industry.
In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Choe remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has been a member of the New York University Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma since 1988 and the Academy of Management since 1984. He has also been active with the Korean Academy of Management since 1987, serving as president from 2003 to 2004. Likewise, he was associated with the Korean Academic Society of Business Administration since 1987, for which he was the vice president from 2002 to 2003. Previously, Dr. Choe maintained involvement as vice president of the Accreditation Institute of Korean Business Education from 2005 to 2010 and as auditor for the Knowledge Management Society of Korea from 2006 to 2007.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Choe has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He has been recognized as Visiting Research Scholar by the Anderson School of Business at UCLA from 2009 to 2010. In 2013, he was further honored by iToday as the Most Admired Person of the Year and with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Choe was presented with a Certificate of Contribution in Higher Education Development from President Park Geun-Hye in 2014, an Achievement Award from Keimyung University in 2006 and 2014, a Best Ph.D. Dissertation Thesis Award from the Korean Association of Industrial Business Administration in 2012, and a Best Paper Award from The Korea Academy of Business Ethics in 2011.
