With over 30 years of industry experience to her credit, Dr. Neal has worked as an adjunct professor at Montana State University Billings and Rocky Mountain College since 2017. Prior to this appointment, she served Lakewood High School as a teacher of English, Advanced Placement U.S. history and the International Baccalaureate Program Theory of Knowledge course from 2004 to 2017, and chair of the department of social studies from 2011 to 2012. She was a founder and instructor in the After School Writing Laboratory from 2009 to 2012. Additionally, Dr. Neal held the positions of adjunct professor at Front Range Community College from 2000 to 2003 and Red Rocks Community College from 2002 to 2004, as well as both teacher and program developer for Mountain Shadows Middle School and Montessori Middle School from 1998 to 2000.
Additional experience includes teacher of humanities for the gifted and talented at Arvada West High School from 1993 to 1998 and software support specialist for Dynamic Data Systems, Inc., from 1992 to 1993. Previously, she joined the Palomar Community College District as an adjunct history professor in 1991 and the University of Southern California as an assistant lecturer in the freshmen writing program from 1986 to 1990. Dr. Neal began her career as a teacher of language arts and social studies at the Carbon County School District One, where she also held the role of assistant volleyball coach from 1978 to 1986.
Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Neal pursued an education at the University of Wyoming, earning a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and English Education. She continued her academic efforts with a Master of Arts in history at the University of Southern California in 1989. She concluded her studies at the University of Southern California in 1994, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Neal obtained a PhD level certificate in the studies of women and men in society from the University of Southern California in 1995.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Dr. Neal has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She has held the roles of teacher and sponsor of the Close Up Foundation from 1984 to 1986 and in 1997, the Youth in Government Program for the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver from 1994 to 1997, and the World Affairs Challenge at University of Denver in 1998. She further contributed to Lakewood High School as a sponsor from 2004 to 2012 and school coordinator of extended essays from 2011 to 2017. Featured in the 2010 documentary "From Cheyenne to Pendleton: The Rise and Fall of the Rodeo Cowgirl," Dr. Neal found success with her written works, having authored Evolution Toward Equality: Equality for Woman of the American West in 2006 and "Essential10 Commas" in 2010.
A participant in the critical thinking and humanities secondary education project for the National Endowment of the Humanities from 1985 to 1986, Dr. Neal chaired a local Reading Is Fundamental Program from 1983 to 1985, was a teacher and advisor for the National History Day Contest from 1995 to 2001, a volunteer mathematics tutor at Foothills Academy from 2001 to 2002, and a presenter at the Fall Conference for the National Women's History Project from 2005 to 2006. Currently, she has been associated with Nucerity International as an independent distributor since 2013 and representative of Ariix Corporate since 2018. She has served International Baccalaureate as an assistant examiner since 2008, and Advanced Placement U.S. History as an exam reader from 2013 to 2017 and table leader in 2018.
In addition to her primary vocation, Dr. Neal remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She has notably maintained involvement with the American Association of University Women and the Western Association of Women Historians. Dr. Neal has also been active with the Autry Museum of the American West, the Women of the West Museum , the Denver Art Museum and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Neal has accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. She obtained a Project Renew Fellowship from the American Association of University Women from 1987 to 1988. She was presented with the Exceptional Teaching Award from Stanford University in 2011. Dr. Neal has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
