With nearly 50 years of professional experience, Ms. Blodgett retired in 2006, having been a public library assistant with the Charlotte Community Library since 1992. Prior to obtaining this role, she was a second grade teacher with Charlotte Public Schools from 1970 to 1992 and with Holt Public Schools in 1967. From 1962 to 1963, she was a first grade teacher with Vandercook Lake Public Schools, and from 1961 to 1962, she was a kindergarten teacher with Cassopolis Public Schools. Earlier in her career, Ms. Blodgett was a homemaking teacher with the Three Oaks Public School Academy from 1959 to 1961 and with Centreville Public Schools from 1958 to 1959.
Ms. Blodgett knew from an early age that she wanted to be a teacher, having always had a love of learning. She was further encouraged by her high school English teacher, Virginia Horn, who proved to be an inspirational mentor. Ms. Blodgett began her career as a student at Berea College, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1958. She later studied at Michigan State University, earning a Master of Arts in 1973. She holds a certification in continuing education from the Michigan Library Cooperative Directors Association, as well as a Special Professional Certificate for Library Employment.
An active leader in her community, Ms. Blodgett has been affiliated with numerous organizations related to her areas of expertise. She is a member of the AARP, a retired lifetime member of the National Education Association, and a member of the Eaton County Association of Retired School Personnel. She is the former correspondence secretary and recording secretary of the American Business Women's Association, a retired lifetime member of the Michigan Education Association, and a lifetime member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. Ms. Blodgett is also active with the Eaton Area Senior Center and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Throughout her career, Ms. Blodgett has been recognized for her contributions, including having been named among Women of the Year by the American Business Women's Association, which she considers to be the highlight of her career. The Eaton County Education Association gave her a Certificate of Appreciation and a Plaque for 25 Years of Teaching, she was the winner of the Recipe for Review of Alphabet Letters by Alpha News Magazine, and she received a United Way Service Award. Ms. Blodgett has been featured in multiple honors publications as well, including Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in America. In her free time, Ms. Blodgett enjoys creative coloring, playing bingo, making crafts, sewing and reading.
