With more than 50 years of professional experience, Mr. Keady served as a freelance mediator and arbitrator from 1993 to 2007, having retired as an associate justice of the Springfield, MA, Superior Court since 1982. Prior to this appointment, he was a justice with the Springfield, MA, District Court from 1979 to 1982, a partner with Wilson, Keady & Ratner from 1958 to 1979, and an associate with Peter D. Wilson from 1953 to 1957. Earlier in his career, Mr. Keady was an associate with Ganley & Crook from 1950 to 1953.
Mr. Keady began his career with the United States Army from 1943 to 1946, attaining the rank of 1st sergeant, also studying at the University of Kansas from 1943 to 1945. Upon exiting the service, his grandmother encouraged him to find a satisfactory career, and he was drawn to the field of law. He obtained a Bachelor of Science from Fordham University in 1949, subsequently completing a Juris Doctor at Columbia University in 1950, gaining admission to the Massachusetts State Bar the same year. Later in his career, Mr. Keady earned a Doctor of Laws from Western New England College in 1973.
A respected voice in his areas of expertise, Mr. Keady has been affiliated with numerous organizations in his community. He is a member of the American Law Institute, the Hampden County Bar Association, the Supreme Court Historical Society, the Longmeadow Country Club, and Phi Delta Phi. The former dean of the Western New England College Law School, he has also served as director of the Western Massachusetts Bar Review, the Western New England College Bar Review, and as chair of Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. Mr. Keady has also served as a member of the Massachusetts commission on Judicial Conduct.
Mr. Keady has been active with the United Fund, and he has served as joint civic agencies chair fund drive for the American Cancer Society. He was a selectman for Longmeadow, MA, chair, moderator, and vice chair of the Republican Town Committee. A former delegate and alternate delegate for the Republican National Convention, he has served as president of the Hampden District Mental Health Clinic, Inc., the Child Guidance Clinic, and he was a corporator, trustee, and chair of the board for the Baystate Medical Center and Baystate Health Systems. Mr. Keady was a trustee of Western New England College, Baypath Junior College, Baystate Health Systems, and director of BHIC.
Attributing his success to his honesty and determination, Mr. Keady has been honored throughout his career for his contributions, having won a Bronze Star for his military service.
