Rebecca B. Sisk Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Career Achievements

Mrs. Sisk was one of the few professors who achieved that rank without possessing a doctorate



Rebecca B. Sisk was both an educator and small-business owner who utilized her various skills to assist people at different points in her life.

    PENSACOLA, FL, September 01, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rebecca B. Sisk has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Now retired after a multifaceted career, Mrs. Sisk was both an educator and small-business owner who utilized her various skills to assist people at different points in her life. After receiving a BS from Auburn University in 1957, she became a teacher at Brentwood Junior High School in Pensacola, where she would remain until 1967. During that time, she earned a master's degree, again from Auburn University, and taught home economics. In that position, she was responsible for teaching basic life skills and tenets of household management, which helped her make a significant impact on her students.

Mrs. Sisk later taught as an instructor at Pensacola State College for more than 25 years and was also the coordinator of the fashion merchandising program at Pensacola Junior College for 12 years. While helping young adults prepare for the future, she also wore multiple hats for Electronic Communications South, Inc. from 1977 to 1993, serving as secretary, treasurer and a member of the board of directors. She retired from the company and from her role as an educator in 1993, resolute in the knowledge that she had done her part to positively impact her field. In addition to learning that several of her students became involved in careers involving home economics, she was the Florida representative at the 11th Lake Placid Conference held by the American Home Economics Association. Mrs. Sisk was also responsible for creating a textiles lab manual and study guide, a fashion internship manual and "Clothing Design, A Programmed Manual," which was published in 1990.

Mrs. Sisk has held memberships with the American Home Economics Association, the International Textile and Apparel Association (formerly the Association of College Professors of Textiles and Clothing, Inc.), the American Association of University Women, the West Florida Home Economics Association, Omicron Nu, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Phi Delta Kappa. She is also affiliated with IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area, which provides grants to nonprofit organizations. In her spare time she enjoys remodeling older homes, gardening, reading, and tailoring clothing.
