With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Faulk has been the president and chief scientific officer of Faulk Pharmaceuticals, Inc., since 2000. Prior to establishing his firm, he was a professor and director of immunopathology, Indiana University Methodist Hospital from 1986 to 1997, director of transplantation research at the Royal College of Surgeons from 1979 to 1981, a professor of immunology with the Medical University of South Carolina from 1976 to 1979, and a staff member with the British Medical Research Council from 1973 to 1976.
Inspired to pursue a career in the field by a desire to understand human biology, Dr. Faulk discovered that the best way to learn about the subject was to become a physician. He began his career as a student at the University of the South, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1959. He continued his studies with Tulane University, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1964. He then held a fellowship with the National Institutes of Health at the Netherlands Red Cross from 1965 to 1966, followed by fellowships with the Mayo Clinic from 1966 to 1967 and the University of California Medical Center from 1967 to 1969. Dr. Faulk was later elected a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists.
A respected voice in his community, Dr. Faulk has been affiliated with numerous organizations in his areas of expertise. He served as a medical officer with the World Health Organization, 1969-1973, and a member of the NATO Advanced Study Group. He was a visiting professor with the University of Nice, the Southern Illinois University department of obstetrics, and he was a consultant in hematology and oncology for Pembury Hospital. The contributor of articles to more than 350 publications, Dr. Faulk has co-edited 11 journals and was the founder and co-editor of Placenta and Immunological Obstetrics. He is a member of the International Society for Immunology of Reproduction, the American Society for Reproductive Immunology, and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, and in 2010 was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science by the University of the South.
Throughout his career, Dr. Faulk has been recognized for his contributions with accolades and honors. He was the recipient of the Munksgaard Award from the American Society for Reproductive Immunology, the Metchnikoff Medal from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and an award from the California Trudeau Society.
