Ms. Pierce has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in education

Nancy Howes Pierce's goal as an administrator was to establish and maintain a warm, loving and supportive school environment.

DERRY, NH, September 11, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Nancy Howes Pierce with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Pierce celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

In 2007, Ms. Pierce retired from her position as an assistant principal at Highland-Goffes Falls Schools in Manchester, NH, where she had worked since 1999. Her goal as an administrator was to establish and maintain a warm, loving and supportive school environment, one that welcomed parents and community members, created an open and inspired learning atmosphere, and provided students with creative and knowledgeable instruction. As an assistant principal, she founded the Highland Student Council in grades 3-5; it was the only one in an elementary school in the city, and was highly successful. Before taking on this role, she spent time as an English and French teacher and English department chairman at Windham Middle School in Windham, NH, from 1985 to 1999. During this time, she taught English at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH for the 1987-1990 summer sessions. At Hudson Memorial School in Hudson, NH, from 1974 to 1985 and from 1969 to 1971, she was English department chairman and taught English and American history. Additionally, Ms. Pierce was an English and history teacher at Alvirne High School in Hudson, NH, in 1974 and an English teacher at Hanover High School in Hanover, MA, from 1967 to 1968. She has taught students in grades five through twelve.

From 2010 to 2017, Ms. Pierce was a part-time transportation coordinator at Community Caregivers of Greater Derry. Before this, she was an executive secretary at the Rivier College Alumni Board of Directors from 1987 to 1990 and an Episcopal Church youth advisor as well as a unit commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America from 1987 to 1990. Furthermore, she was a troop leader for the Girls Scouts of the USA, on the board of directors at the Kendallwood Condominium Association from 1977 to 1979, and a secretary and on the board of directors for the Community Caregivers of Greater Derry from 2008 to 2014.

Ms. Pierce's academic pursuits began at Bridgewater State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1967. She then attended Rivier University and earned a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision in 1981. She was also a certified principal in New Hampshire and formerly in Massachusetts. She went into teaching and administration because her parents and grandparents were teachers; teaching and helping others ran in her family. Ms. Pierce decided on English because she wanted her students to become able thinkers and well-educated people.

As an active member of the community, Ms. Pierce is involved as a member with the Senior Advisory Board for the Derry, NH Police Department, the Veterans of Foreign War's Patriot's Pen Essay Committee, and the VFW Auxiliary Post 1617 in Derry. She also volunteers at the Community Caregivers of Greater Derry and is a long-time Town of Derry election official (ballot clerk).

Ms. Pierce is a former member of numerous organizations, including the National Association for Female Executives, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. For all of her accomplishments, Ms. Pierce has been acknowledged as the first runner up for Assistant Principal of the Year by the NHASP in the State of New Hampshire in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Ms. Pierce has learned many things during her long and productive career. The most important are these three. First, it has been said that education is the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another; teachers have custody of America's soul, must guard it with all of their strength, and must resolve to pass it on in better condition than it came to them. Second, teachers need to know that who they are and what they do, each and every day, matters more to the world than probably any other force or influence. They need to know that they are desperately needed and that the kids cannot succeed without them; they should conduct themselves accordingly. Finally, there is no greater responsibility, no greater privilege, than the raising of the next generation; teachers must honor their responsibility, savor and protect their privilege.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Nancy Howes Pierce has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
