With nearly 60 years of professional experience, Mrs. Hensel retired in 2010, having been an artist in Lancaster, PA, since 1960. Prior to obtaining this role, she was a department store layout artist in El Paso, TX, from 1954 to 1955. Earlier in her career, Mrs. Hensel served as an art teacher with the New Holland Borough Schools from 1953 to 1954.
Mrs. Hensel began her career as a student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1953. She credits much of her success to her mentors, in particular Barbara Whipple and Jeanne Dobie. A contributor of articles to several professional magazines, she also contributed to the book "Splash 5."
A respected voice in the field, Mrs. Hensel has been affiliated with numerous organizations in her community. She is a member of the American Watercolor Society, the Lancaster County Art Association, the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, the Philadelphia Water Color Society, and she has served as a committee member for the Pennsylvania School for the Arts. She was a Lancaster Museum of Art donating artist for the DeMuth Foundation, and she was a featured artist for WITF-TV.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Hensel has been recognized for her contributions, including having received three Keystone Award and a Bronze Medal for her work. The recipient of a Sylvan Grouse Guild Medal, the Philadelphia Water Color Society has awarded her the Crest Medal and the Philadelphia Watercolor Club Prize. The Art Association of Harrisburg gave her a Best of Show Award, and she was named a Knickerbocker Artist. Mrs. Hensel has been included in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women. In her free time, she enjoys golf, gardening, skiing, traveling, and judging art exhibitions.
