With more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. St. Pierre was a K-12 art teacher with the Kenmore-Tonawanda Union Free School District from 1967 to 2000. In addition to her primary role, she served as a cooperating teacher for art student teachers at Buffalo State College from 1972 to 2000, an advisor on original multimedia production for the New York State Council for the Arts from 1990 to 1995, and a coordinator and teacher with the Parents as Reading Partners Artwork from 1990 to 1998. From 1987 to 1988, she was a graduate assistant at New York University, and from 1999 to 2000, she was an adjunct professor with the Medaille College Graduate School. Dr. St. Pierre also served as a senior partner for the arts at the New York State Academy of Teaching and Learning from 2000 to 2001.
Dr. St. Pierre was inspired to pursue a career in art education from an early age, having always enjoyed painting. She began her career as a student at Buffalo State College, obtaining a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in art education in 1967 and 1970, respectively. She subsequently studied at Middlebury College, where she completed a Master of Arts in Italian in 1976. Dr. St. Pierre earned a Doctor of Philosophy in communication and culture in the English Department from New York University in 1992.
A respected voice in the field, Dr. St. Pierre has been affiliated with numerous organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She is a member of the American Association of University Women, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Kenmore Teachers Association, and the American Federation of Teachers. She has been active with the New York State Teachers Association, the National Art Education Association, New York State United Teachers, the International Mentoring Association, and the Buffalo Science Museum Camera Club. She is the former state secretary of the New York State Art Teachers Association, which earned her an Outstanding Service Award in 2000, and she is a member of the Photographic Society of America. In her free time, Dr. St. Pierre enjoys traveling, photography, reading, art, and gardening.
