Tae-Shin Kwon has served as Vice Chairman and CEO of the Federation of Korean Industries since 2017.

Mr. Kwon has served as Vice Chairman and CEO of the Federation of Korean Industries since 2017. The federation is a non-governmental organization made up of Korea's top businesses and related associations, whose mission is developing the Korean economy, suggesting sound economic policies, and promoting globalization of the Korean economy based on a free-market system. Under his direction, the federation is currently developing a growth strategy and regulation reform measures for Korea's economy, and is establishing public diplomatic relations through multilateral and international organizations. He also is a board member of organizations within his field, serving as the Chief of the Korea Economic Research Institute since 2014 and a standing committee member of the Economic and Social Development Commission since 2017.
Mr. Kwon earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics and a Master of Arts in economics from Seoul National University in 1972 and in 1975 in Seoul, Korea. He then traveled overseas to the United States to obtain a Master of Arts in economics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN in 1982. Years later, he obtained a Master in Business Administration from Cass Business School in London in 2001.
Mr. Kwon has worked for the Korean government over 35 years since he joined the Ministry of Finance and Economy in 1977. During his early career in government, he was dispatched to the Korean Embassy to the United Kingdom as Financial Counsellor in 1998. He was appointed as deputy minister for international affairs of the Ministry of Finance and Economy in 2003, directly after his service as director-general for international finance. He was then appointed as secretary to the President of Economic Policy in 2004, his fourth presidential office position. He was then Vice Minister of the Ministry of Finance and Economy from 2005 to 2006 and the permanent representative of Korea to the OECD in Paris from 2006 to 2008. He then served as the Minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination from 2009 to 2010, and became Vice Chairman of the Presidential Council on National Competitiveness(PCNC) from 2011 to 2013.
Mr. Kwon served four years for the Korean Air Force as First Lieutenant. He was awarded a citation by the Minister of Finance in 1983, and then received a Green Stripes Order of Service Merit two years later. Over 30 years later, he was awarded a Blue Stripes Order of Service Merit in 2011.
