The Canadian Psychological Association gave Charles Strozier the Goethe Award, and the International Psychohistorical Association awarded him a Certificate of Honor.

With more than 45 years of professional experience, Dr. Strozier has been a professor of history at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and The Graduate Center, The City University of New York, since 1986, and as a psychoanalyst in private practice since 1992. In addition to his primary roles, he served as co-director of the Center on Violence and Human Survival from 1986 to 2001 and as the founding director for the Center on Terrorism in 2001 at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Earlier in his career, Dr. Strozier was a professor of history at the University of Illinois Springfield, formerly known as Sangamon State University, from 1982 to 1986, having been an associate professor since 1976 and assistant professor since 1972.

Dr. Strozier began his career as a student at Harvard University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in 1966. He then joined the University of Chicago, earning a Master of Arts in 1967 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1971. He subsequently completed postgraduate work with the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis from 1971 to 1980. From 1986 to 1996, Dr. Strozier underwent training and research in self-psychology and he is a diplomate of the American Psychotherapy Association.

Throughout his career, Dr. Strozier has been recognized for his contributions, having been a finalist for the Lincoln Prize of the Gilder Lehrman Institute. He has twice received nominations for the Pulitzer Prize, he is an honorary member of the American Psychoanalytic Association, and the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis gave him the Gradiva Award for the Best Biography in Psychoanalysis and the Vision Award. Dr. Strozier was named Writer of the Year by the Lincoln Library.

The Canadian Psychological Association gave him the Goethe Award, and the International Psychohistorical Association awarded him a Certificate of Honor. The winner of an Award of Achievement from the Lincoln Group of New York, he also received an Award of Achievement and the Barondess/Lincoln Award of the Civil War Round Table from the Abraham Lincoln Association. Dr. Strozier has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals.
