With more than 40 years of industry experience to his credit, Mr. Lair has worked at Memorial Medical Center as a security officer since 2012, Lair Death Investigations as owner since 1996, and for Morgan County, IL, as coroner since 1984. In addition to these appointments, he held the position of paramedic in Jacksonville, IL, from 1976 to 2002. Previously, he served as a deputy coroner in Jacksonville from 1976 to 1984, as a coroner for Scott County, IL, from 1974 to 1975, and deputy coroner for Morgan County. In the beginning of his career, Mr. Lair pursued a career as a state trooper, but later worked as a dispatcher and deputy for the Scott County Sheriff's Office and an EMT in Jacksonville.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Lair pursued an education at Winchester High School. Following his graduation, he became certified by the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. Additionally, Mr. Lair has excelled as the co-founder of his regional Underwater Search and Recovery Dive Team and coordinator for Entomology Classes for Police Investigators.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Lair has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He has formerly contributed to the Illinois Coroners and Medical Examiners Association as a secretary and president. He also found success as a president for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Likewise, Mr. Lair was an active member of Kiwanis International.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Lair has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. Featured in the 2018 edition of Marquis Magazine, he was further recognized as an Industry Expert by Worldwide Branding in 2018. Proud of his work, especially his actions within challenging cases involving homicides, Mr. Lair is looking toward his future within his industry, and is currently considering the possibility of his retirement.
