Mr. Drobashevsky was a longtime exhibit designer and design director for Giltspur Exhibitions in Pittsburgh beginning in 1976. First hired in 1960 to work as a designer for Jenter Brothers in in Mount Vernon, NY, he later earned the opportunities with Gardner Displays in Pittsburgh and G.R.S. & W., Inc., also in Pittsburgh. Well-respected for his work, his 40-year career included designing national and international expositions, including several nuclear information centers in the United States and Asia. Mr. Drobashevsky was also a contract designer for the Westinghouse Nuclear Company, and as a highlight in his career, created Seabrook Education Information Center, functioning to this date in conjunction with N.H. Gas and Electric Company.
Mr. Drobashevsky also created a Seabrook logo, receiving an award for the design. He also notably earned a Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater in 2011, which he is very proud to have received, as well as an award for his chestnut-carved iconostas design at his church in Allison Park, PA.
Locally, Mr. Drobashevsky is involved as a longtime member of the American Translators Association, the Bartlett Art Association, the Nuclear Association, New York City, and he is a proud member of the Pittsburgh Legion Troop 192 for over 40 years. Some of his favorite past times include ice hockey management and statistics and serving as a Russian language interpreter during visits from the Soviet Union hockey professionals playing the local team in the U.S.
In 2010, Mr. Drobashevsky self-published "Odyssey of a DP: Memoirs of a Displaced Person." Escaping Yugoslavia in 1941 with his mother at the age of 12, the country to which his father had fled for safety during the Russian Revolution, the book acknowledges the many challenges and heartache they endured after taking refuge in Austria. Mr. Drobashevsky penned the memoir in hopes it would preserve his own stories along with those of the people he loves.
Completing a Bachelor of Science in industrial design at Bridgeport University in 1959, Mr. Drobashevsky is certified in design management, CAD management and ADA. He notably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War between 1951 and 1953. Mr. Drobashevsky was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and immigrated to the United States in 1949. Married to his wife, Elfrieda Baumann, since 1954, he later had two children. He is presently living with their daughter Liz. He misses his wife of 62 years terribly. Elfrieda passed in the Lord in 2017.
