From 2006 to 2011, Dr. Keating was a research fellow at DuPont Central Research and Development in Wilmington, DE. She had been working at this company since 1985 as a research scientist until 2000, at which time she became a senior research associate for six years. Dr. Keating's first professional role was as a research scientist at the University of Delaware from 1982 to 1984.
Additionally, Dr. Keating was a member and lecturer at the North American Thermal Analysis Society (NATAS) from 1986 to 2011. She notes that she joined the field later in life due to raising her children, and as such she feels very connected to both the younger and older scientists. Dr. Keating considers these relationships to be the highlight of her career.
Dr. Keating was born in Szechuan, China and grew up in Taiwan. Her academic pursuits began at National Taiwan University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1966. Upon graduation, she moved to the United States. Once there, she attended Pennsylvania State University in College Park, PA where she obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry in 1970. Dr. Keating's path in the world of science has been certain since childhood, as she has always had a passion for science, math, chemistry and physics.
As an active member of the scientific community, Dr. Keating has accumulated numerous accomplishments throughout her career. She has done research in thermal fractionation of ethylene and perfluoroethylene copolymers, inplane and through-plane thermal conductivity, accelerated creep of engineering polymers, determination of polymer process windows through crystallization rates versus temperature, and heat deflection temperature of polymers using DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analysis). Dr. Keating also holds membership in NATAS where she was a proceedings editor in 1996, publications councilor and vice president in 2005, and president in 2006.
Aside from her scientific work, Dr. Keating is active in her church, volunteers at a nursing home, and enjoys painting, playing guitar, and crafting stained-glass panels and Tiffany-style lamp shades. She received the NATAS Outstanding Service Award in 1997 and was a NATAS fellow in 2004. Dr. Keating has previously been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
