Dr. Wiseman has been an assistant professor of chemistry at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WV, since 2012. Teaching General Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Lab Principles, Analytical Chemistry, Analytical Techniques and Quantitative Analysis, he formerly taught as a lecturer and laboratory coordinator at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC, between 2010 and 2012. He was also a visiting professor at the University of Tennessee at Martin between 2009 and 2010.
Some of Dr. Wiseman's research interests have included temperature studies of the hydrolyses reactions of acid anhydrides, aqueous alcohol oxidation by the hypochlorite ion and the development of a more accurate diffusion equation. He has also developed some advanced pedagogical perspectives on solution-phase reactions and is currently in the process of further developing these ideas. Dr. Wiseman has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed chemical science journals in his field, including in the Journal of Physical Organic Chemistry, the Journal of Physical Chemical Chemistry, and the International Journal of Chemistry.
Commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1984, Dr. Wiseman advanced through the grades to major by 1996. He taught as a professor in the U.S. Air Force Academy in both Colorado Springs, CO, and West Point, NY, for a total of eight years. While completing his last duty assignment in the Air Force at West Point, Dr. Wiseman taught in the chemistry and life science department as a service exchange officer. After retiring from the military in 2004, he became a senior scientist for ENSCO, Inc., in Melbourne, FL, for four years before venturing into academia. During his time with ENSCO, he developed what he called "configuration specific kinetic molecular theory." He contributed two publications on this subject in the Journal of Physical Chemistry.
In his local community, Dr. Wiseman has served as a missions coordinator and worship band member for the River of Life Church in Merritt Island, FL. He served in the same capacity for the Florida and Summit Church in Elkins, WV. Honored with a Decorated Meritorious Service Medal and a Commendation Medal by the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Wiseman has also been featured in the 61st through the 63rd editions of Who's Who in America.
Dr. Wiseman has held a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Tennessee at Martin since 1978 and a Doctor of Philosophy in physical chemistry from Louisiana State University since 1982. He is level II acquisition certified in system planning, research, development and engineering. Born in Oakland, CA, Dr. Wiseman later married his wife of 40 years, Jacqueline Sue Snider. They share three children, as well as three grandchildren.
