Obi N. I. Ebbe has been named a Mentor of the Year (1998) at the State University of New York College at Brockport.
CHATTANOOGA, TN, September 25, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Obi N. I. Ebbe with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Obi N. I. Ebbe celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as
position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A former captain and commanding officer in the Biafran Army, Dr. Ebbe was inspired by his father to become the man he is today. As a child, his father told him "whoever knows how to write, how to hold the pen, is the person who is going to rule" and recommended that he study a subject that would help him "know the world." After coming to the United States to study finance, he found himself drawn to sociology for exactly that reason, which then opened up the
worlds of criminology and criminal justice. Today, Dr. Ebbe serves as a professor of criminology, criminal justice and sociology at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and is a real estate investor through an eponymous company. Over the years, he also gained valuable teaching experience with the State University of New York College at Brockport.
An expert in his field, Dr. Ebbe holds a General Certificate of Education (GCE) in Ordinary and Advanced Levels of the University of London, a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Western Michigan University, and a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He has made it a point to further his education with a certificate from Oxford Round Table, University of Oxford, United Kingdom, in "Criminal Law and Justice" (2006), and a certificate from Harvard University Medical School, Continuing Education Department, in "Abuse and Victimization in Life Span Perspective, Trauma, and Memory: Clinical and Legal Dimensions" (1993). Due to the changing nature of the fields in which he works, he affiliates himself with the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), the American Society of Criminology (ASC), the International Scientific and Professional Advisory Council of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programmes (ISPAC), and the International Police Executive Symposium (IPES).
In academia, Dr. Ebbe noted that being published lent a lot of credibility to a person's resume, so he also focused on creative writing and authored a number of textbooks, including "State Crimes Around the World: A Treatise in the Sociology of State Deviance (2016), Comparative and International Criminal Justice Systems, 3rd edition (2013), Broken Back Axle: Unspeakable Events in Biafra (2011), Global Trafficking in Women and Children (co-edited. 2010). Criminal Abuse of Women and Children (co-edited, 2009), etc. For his excellence in the field, he has been named a Mentor of the Year (1998) at the State University of New York College at Brockport, and currently nominated candidate for Freda Adler Distinguished International Scholar Award for November 2018 ASC conference. Additionally, he was honored with inclusion in the 65th edition of Who's Who in America. In the coming years, Dr. Ebbe intends to publish more books and experience the continued success of his career in education and real estate.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Obi N. I. Ebbe has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
