Dr. Diamond worked as a grant writer for Valdosta City Schools in Valdosta, GA from 2008 to 2011. She began her career as a music teacher within Clayton County Schools in Jonesboro, GA from 1968 to 1969 before becoming an elementary mathematics teacher at Savannah Country Day School from 1972 to 1982. She then became a teacher of the gifted within Lowndes County Schools in Columbus, MS from 1983 to 1987 and within Valdosta City Schools from 1987 to 1990. Following these appointments, she worked as a school psychologist within Valdosta City Schools from 1990 to 2003, and then as mathematics and science curriculum director from 2003 to 2008. During this time, she also worked as Valdosta City Schools' Title II-A coordinator from 2004 to 2011 and as Title III coordinator from 2008 to 2011.
Dr. Diamond earned a Bachelor of Science in music education from Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA in 1968. She then received two Master of Education degrees: one in elementary education from Armstrong State College in Savannah, GA in 1978 and the other in education psychology from Mississippi State University in 1986. She went on to attend Valdosta State University, where she obtained a Specialist in Education degree in school psychology in 1990 and a Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction in 2001.
Dr. Diamond is a certified teacher in the state of Georgia as well as a certified school psychologist. She also received a Nabisco Fellowship from the Joint Council on Economics in New York in 1988, and has served as the coordinator of the gifted program of Valdosta City Schools from 1990 to 1993 and again from 2003 to 2011.
Aside from her professional responsibilities, Dr. Diamond has worked with the Lowndes Advocacy Resource Center since 1990, including as its board treasurer on the board of directors from 2008 to the present. She is a member and former secretary and president of the Georgia Association of School Psychologists. She is also affiliated with the National Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Council of Exceptional Children, among others.
Dr. Diamond was honored as an Outstanding Graduate Student by the Education Psychology Department at Mississippi State University in 1986, and was named Elementary Economics Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Council on Economic Education in Atlanta in 1989. She was also awarded two Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Awards, and is listed in the sixth edition of Who's Who in American Education and three editions of Who's Who of American Women.
