Dr. Korniewicz has been the dissertation chair and a professor at the Passan School of Nursing of Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA, since 2017. She began her career as the director of the nurse practitioner program at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, from 1978 to 1982. Two years later, she became a research associate at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, until 1987. She concurrently began working as the director of the acute care program at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, in 1989 and the associate dean of academy development at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, in 1992, retiring from both positions in 1999. Immediately thereafter, she was a research professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, from 1999 until 2003, when she relocated to Florida. There, she held three simultaneous positions as the senior associate dean for research at Jackson Memorial Hospital, the Miami VA Healthcare System, and the University of Miami. She then relocated once more to North Dakota in 2011 to become the dean of the College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines at the University of North Dakota, and after two years, was promoted to university research dean in 2013, which she withdrew from the following year to fulfill her current duty.
Dr. Korniewicz earned a Bachelor of Science from Madonna University in Livonia, MI, in 1974. She went on to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in 1977 and a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing from the Catholic University of America in 1986. One year after graduating, she received a postdoctoral fellowship in infectious disease control and prevention from Johns Hopkins University, which she completed in 1989. She has also been an independent research and education consultant since 2017 and a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. Furthermore, she was a volunteer probation officer in Washington, DC, in 1991.
