Dr. Allen Calvin has been recognized as president emeritus of the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology

With more than 60 years of professional experience, Dr. Calvin has been recognized as president emeritus of the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology, having been president from 1984 to 2016 and a professor from 1984 to 2001. Prior to obtaining these roles, he was the Henry Clay Hall professor of organization and leadership at the University of San Francisco from 1978 to 1983, having been a professor and dean of the School of Education from 1974 to 1978. From 1962 to 1974, Dr. Calvin was the president of the Behavioral Research Laboratories.
Dr. Calvin was the director of the Britannica Center for Studies in Learning and Motivation in 1961, and he was the principal investigator grantee for automated teaching of foreign languages of the Carnegie Foundation and a grantee of the United States Public Health Service in 1960. Earlier in his career, he was an associate professor with Hollins College from 1959 to 1961, having been an assistant professor since 1955, and an instructor with Michigan State University from 1953 to 1955.
Dr. Calvin began his career with the United States Naval Reserve, serving from 1946 to 1947. He then joined the University of Minnesota, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in psychology in 1950. Inspired by his Nobel Prize-winning cousin and further encouraged by an influential Texan woman, he studied at the University of Texas, earning a Master of Arts in psychology in 1951 and a Doctor of Philosophy in experimental psychology in 1953.
A respected voice in the field, Dr. Calvin has written several textbooks in his areas of expertise. In addition, he is a Fellow in the American Psychological Association and a Fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has also been affiliated with Sigma Xi and Psi Chi. Dr. Calvin credits much of his success to the Jesuit community, who were highly influential in the way he looks at the world and provided him with the tools he needed to succeed.
Throughout his career, Dr. Calvin has been recognized for his contributions, including having been invited to the White House numerous times by such high-ranking officials as Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. He has been featured in multiple honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Religion, and Who's Who in the World.
