Mr. Reifler is an attorney who specializes in executive compensation and corporate governance and has more than 25 years of practice experience. Mr. Reifler was a shareholder with Vedder Price P.C. as the head of its New York Executive Compensation Practice Group since 2001. Before that, from 1998 to 2001, he was a consultant and director of the Northeast Compensation Practice Group for PricewaterhouseCoopers. From 1995 to 1998 he was an attorney with Weil, Gotshal & Manges. Mr. Reifler began his legal career as an attorney with the Law Offices of Joseph E. Bachelder, and was with that firm from 1991 to 1995. Prior to 1992, Mr. Reifler was an insurance broker and consultant.
Mr. Reifler studied literature at McGill University where he was a student in the Honours Tutorial Programme at the Faculty of Arts, completing coursework from 1972 to 1975. He continued his academic efforts with a Bachelor of Arts from Bard College in 1979. He concluded his studies in 1992 at New York Law School, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence, magna cum laude. Following these accomplishments, Mr. Reifler was admitted to practice law by New York State and Connecticut, as well as with the United States Tax Court and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Reifler has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He has found much success with his written works, having co-authored the fourth edition of "Compensation Committee Handbook" in 2014 as well as many articles for esteemed publications. From 2000 to 2008, he held the role of trustee for the Westport (Connecticut) Public Library. Mr. Reifler also was a member of the Advisory Board of Corporate Business Taxation Monthly, the Executive Compensation Steering Committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Compensation Standards Task Force of the National Association of Stock Plan Professionals.
In addition to his primary trade, Mr. Reifler remains affiliated with various organizations both in relation to his areas of expertise and other areas of interest. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, and the New York State Bar Association. He has served on the Board of Governors of the Minuteman Yacht Club since 2007, where he has held the positions of Commodore (2013-2014) and Treasurer (2012, 2015-present) and was a recipient of the yacht club's "Jim Anderson Good Guy Award" in 2011. He is also a member of the Penn Club of New York, the United States Parachute Association, and the National Rifle Association.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Reifler has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. In 1991, in his last year of law school, he was presented with an American Jurisprudence Award and was also awarded the Outstanding Editorial Contribution honor from the New York Law School Law Review. Likewise, he has been recognized among the New York Super Lawyers since 2007. Mr. Reifler was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, and Who's Who in the World.
