Mr. Asher, principal owner of James. E. Asher, ACF, is a Consulting Forester, engineer, arborist, and forensic expert who has been in the field for nearly 70 years. First taken on board with the U.S. Forest Service at the San Bernardino National Forest in 1950, he spent several years with the organization, gaining a tremendous background in fire control and other aspects of the field before moving into private practice in 1957.
During his career, Mr. Asher worked for the Crest Forest Fire Protection District in Crestline, CA as a captain, battalion chief, assistant chief, fire prevention officer, and chief. He was also a forester and timber manager with the Big Bear division of the Golden State Building Products, and served on numerous committees, including for the California Board of Forestry, the Professional Foresters Examining Committee, and the California Forest Pest Control Council.
Mr. Asher has donated his time as a volunteer fire warden for the State of California, has been the chair of the tree conservation subcommittee for the First District of Supervisors Ad Hoc Committee on Soil Erosion and Sediment Control for County of San Bernardino, and has served as a forensic expert witness. He is currently President of the San Bernardino Mountains Land Trust; since 2014.
Mr. Asher is the coauthor of "A Technical Guide for Community and Urban Forestry" in Washington, Oregon, and California, has contributed articles to multiple professional journals, and has presented in his field on numerous occasions. He is a member of several organizations, was a certified arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture, executive committee member of the Inland Empire chapter of the Southern California Society of American Foresters, and is president and special advisor of the San Bernardino Mountains Land Trust.
Mr. Asher has been honored many times throughout his career, including with a Certificate of Merit from both the National Fire Protection Association and the San Bernardino Mountains Association, a Resolution of Commendation from the County Board of Supervisors and a Forester of the Year Award from the Southern California section of the Society of American Foresters. He holds an undergraduate degree from Oregon State University, and he is certified in continuing forestry education by the Society of American Foresters. He is a registered professional forester and was a registered professional engineer in the state of California and a licensed pest control advisor and pest control applicator in the state of California. Serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, Mr. Asher has been cited in nearly 25 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who in the World. Married to Marilyn Lee (Struebing) Asher since 1953, Mr. Asher has two children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
