Since 1980, Dr. Jordan has been a curriculum consultant in the professional growth center for Detroit Public Schools and Wayne State University. She has also been an administrative unit head at Von Steuben Middle School in Detroit, MI since 1977 and a part-time instructor of English at Wayne County Community College in Detroit, MI since 1969. Likewise, she was an administrative unit head at Richard Middle School from 1976 to 1977, the head of the English department at Farewell Junior High School from 1968 to 1975 and the English instructor at Southwestern High School from 1964 to 1968.
In Florence, SC, Dr. Jordan was an English instructor and part-time guidance counselor at Wilson Junior High School from 1954 to 1964. From 1953 to 1954, she was an English instructor at Liberty High School in Liberty, MA. She also spent time as an English instructor at Hutchins Junior High School and the head of the social studies department at Cooley High School. Since 1983, she has been a volunteer leader of the Junior Great Books Discussion Group. She was also involved with the Adult Great Books Discussion Group in Detroit, MI from 1965 to 1981.
Dr. Jordan has always been fascinated with English, writing and language ever since she was young. She began her academic pursuits at the Tennessee State University, formerly known as the Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1953. She then continued her academics at Wayne State University, where she obtained a Master of Education in 1963. In 2010, she began her Doctor of Philosophy work, also at Wayne State University.
As an established professional, Dr. Jordan has earned membership in such prestigious organizations as the NAACP, TESOL International Association, the International Platform Association, the Metropolitan Detroit Reading Council and the Michigan Council of Teachers of English. She also holds membership in the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Association of State Boards of Education, the Metropolitan Detroit Alliance of Black School Educators, the Organizations of School Administrators and Supervisors and Pi Lambda Theta. Other organizations of which she is a member include the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and the Top Ladies of Distinction Inc. Dr. Jordan also excelled as an advisor for Top Teens of America from 1988 to 2001, and has contributed many articles to professional journals.
For all of these accomplishments, Dr. Jordan has been listed in Poetic Voices of America in 1994, International Who's Who in Education in 1987, The World's Who's Who of Women and the International Who's Who of Intellectuals. She has also been listed in Men and Women of Distinction in volume three and the Dictionary of International Biography. Dr. Jordan has previously been featured in Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who of American Women.
