Ms. Gaston is a retired certified elementary school educator who worked at Plainview Independent School District, Hale Center Independent School District, and Olton School District. In that time, she conducted workshops for elementary teachers and administrators, was a consultant for elementary mathematics and reading, and was on the Plainview evaluating visiting team. She is also the author of "Dynasty on the Texas Plains" from 2009 and "Gaston Enrichment Skills" from 1979. Ms. Gaston completed postgraduate coursework at Texas Tech University, and received her Bachelor of Science from the same institution in 1952. She is certified by the Red Cross and the American Heart Association.
Involved in the community beyond classroom teaching, Ms. Gaston has been involved as a secretary of the PTA, and a charter member of the Museum of the Llano Estacado. She was involved with a workshop at West Texas A&M University for the Texas Association for the Improvement of Reading. She was Olton ISD president and Hale County Teachers district secretary for the Association of Texas Professional Educators. She supported the boys and girls at Cal Farley's in Amarillo, Texas and is a Hale County Farmers Union youth representative. In addition, Ms. Gaston was active in The American Association of University Women, Smithsonian Associates, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the National Retired Teachers Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Growing up with a father who was the president of Little Field school board, Ms. Gaston was surrounded by the idea of teaching from an early age. Not only did she grow up to be an accomplished teacher, but all of her four sisters went on to become teachers as well. In addition to her career, Ms. Gaston is immensely proud of her three children, Terry Lynn Gaston who works as a brain and stroke researcher, Dale Weldon Gaston who is a project manager, and Randy Lee Gaston who is an ultrasound specialist.
Ms. Gaston has been awarded for her impressive accomplishments over the years. State Senator Andrew Rogers honored her with the Outstanding Young Homemaker Award. In 1984 and 1985, she received the Notable Women of Texas Award. Ms. Gaston has previously been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
