Dr. Chuntrasakul began his career as a fellow in vascular surgery at the Albany Medical Center in 1971. Following this appointment, he accepted a burns fellowship at Mercy Hospital Saint Louis in 1972. From 1975 to 1985, he progressed from assistant professor to associate professor in the department of surgery at for the Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand. He continued his career at the Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University as full professor from 1985 to 1998.
During this time, Dr. Chuntrasakul also served as deputy director of the hospital and chair of the outpatient department at the Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University from 1984 to 1989. From 1993 to 1998, he was deputy dean of the medical school at the Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University. Additionally, he has been the junior president of the World Congress of Surgery in 2002 as well as the honorary advisor and medical advisor to the general director of the International Biographical Center in Cambridge, England. Dr. Chuntrasakul has been consultant, instructor and professor emeritus at the Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University since 1998.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Chuntrasakul received his Doctor of Medicine from Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand in 1963. Following this accomplishment, he became a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery in 1972. Dr. Chuntrasakul was presented with an honorary Doctor of Medicine from Mahidol University in 2009.
In addition to his career, Dr. Chuntrasakul is the founder of the Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in Thailand in 1989 and the Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition of Asia (PENSA) in 1995. He also founded the Thai Society of Burn Injuries in 1989 which became the Thai Society of Burn and Wound Healing after merging with the Thai Society for Wound Healing in 2005. He has been a volunteer committee member at the Brain Bank since 2000 and an honorary advisor to the healthcare committee senator in Thailand since 2001. He was also President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand from 2001 to 2003. Dr. Chuntrasakul is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Burn Association, the Medical Association of Thailand, the International College of Surgeons and the Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Society of Asia.
In 1983, Dr. Chuntrasakul was awarded the Royal Academic Medal and the Golden Prize, and has been the three time recipient of the High Level of Royal Medals in 1980, 1993, and 1990. He received the Outstanding Medical Service Award from Mahidol University in 1986, the Outstanding Award from the Trauma Association in 1989 and the Outstanding Award from the Thailand section of the International College of Surgeons. In 2002, he was presented with the Excellent People Award from the Trang Province in Thailand. He was further honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Congress of Arts, Sciences and Communications in 2009.
From 2009 to 2010, Dr. Chuntrasakul was named to the Distinguished Medical Faculty at the Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University. He was celebrated by the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England with the Great Leader Award and the Achievement Award in 2011 and the Research Professor Award in 2015. Dr. Chuntrasakul has previously been selected for inclusion in the 8th edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and multiple editions of Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in Asia.
