Joanne S. Calcagno Celebrates More than 30 Years of Excellence in Education

FLUSHING, NY, October 19, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joanne S. Calcagno has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After working for more than three decades as an educator in New York City, Ms. Calcagno retired from her role as a teacher with P.S. 214, where she taught kindergarten through sixth grade elementary instruction and curriculum development. Over the years, she taught in both homogeneous and heterogeneous settings and inspired greatness among her students. Watching them achieve their goals was always the highlight of her work. Additionally, she has been published in teaching magazines, promoting the creative classrooms that she has established. Since retiring in 2010, she has focused on writing and has authored the children's book "Before Bullied After Friendship: A Boy's Quest For Hope" about an immigrant boy being acclimated to New York. She is also the author of the fiction book "Finally an Answer" about a girl with bipolar disorder. Her third book is a work of non-fiction entitled "Rewind Fast Forward: A Practical Guide of the Transgender Student for Teachers." She is presently writing a non-fiction book about age discrimination.

An expert in her field, Ms. Calcagno holds a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Queens College. In 2007-2008, she was named Educator of the Year by Marquis Who's Who. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, she has maintained affiliation with the American Association of University Women, and the National Organization for Women. In her spare time, she also makes it a point to give back to her community through such organizations as the National Childhood Cancer Foundation. She is a charter member of the National September 11 Memorial Museum and the Women's History Museum of Washington, DC, and she was recently honored as a chartered member of the Natural African American History Museum in Washington D.C. Her favorite causes include the Kids Wish Network, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Paralyzed Veterans of America, VFW and ASPCA.

Prior to delving into elementary education, Ms. Calcagno worked as a nursery school professional for seven years. She was inspired to enter the education arena by both her mother and her second grade teacher, Mrs. Nevins. Through their guidance, as well as the support and encouragement from her husband, she pursued a career in academics and has thoroughly enjoyed her experiences as a distinguished teacher. When Ms. Calcagno is not busy writing, in her spare time she also enjoys playing the piano, attending the theater, traveling and watching movies.
