While working towards his bachelor's degree in classics at the University of British Columbia (from which he would graduate with honors in 1949), Dr. Lenardon fell in love with the classical world. Dr. Lenardon also worked closely with Ohio State University, serving as a professor and director of graduate studies from 1969 to 1984 and retiring from his role of professor in 2012.
Dr. Lenardon's first book was "The Saga of Themistocles" (Thames and Hudson, 1978). He also co-wrote "Classical Mythology" (Oxford University Press, 11th Edition 2018) with Mark Morford and Michael Sham and "A Companion to Classical Mythology" (Oxford University Press, 2000) was co-authored with Mark Morford. Dr. Lenardon also served as a book review editor for the Classical Journal from 1961 to 1968.
He is in the process of writing a new history: "The Persian War Against the Greeks & the Athenian Hero Themistocles, A History For Today About the Victory of Democracy Over Tyranny" (to be published 2019).
Notable for his considerable contributions to the academic arena, Dr. Lenardon has been the recipient of numerous awards in his field, including the Visiting Distinguished Professor Award as given by the University of Louisville in 2001.
