WASHINGTON, DC, October 22, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Andrew Pickens Miller, Esq., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Miller celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Miller's most recent law firm was Hunton & Williams, now Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP. Located in Washington, D.C., which was created by the 2018 merger of two preeminent firms, each more than a century old: Hunton & Williams and Andrews Kurth Kenyon, with more than 1,000 lawyers in the United States, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. The firm serves clients across a broad range of complex transactional, litigation and regulatory matters. Focusing his practice on government relations with an emphasis on state-based issues, Mr. Miller has also been known for his work representing corporations in the administrative, legislative and regulatory arenas.

Formerly serving as attorney general for the Commonwealth of Virginia, Mr. Miller was sworn into office in 1970, only to be re-elected in 1973 with a landslide win. Mr. Miller served at two prominent firms in Virginia, Penn Stuart & Miller in Abingdon and Mays, Valentine, Davenport & Moore in Richmond. Subsequently, he moved to Washington, where he built a practice representing major energy companies, including Southern Company and TransCanada.

Originally attracted to the law because he believes it is the best mechanism for civil resolution of societal controversy, Mr. Miller later founded the John Marshall Foundation in Richmond. Established in 1987, the mission of the foundation is to sponsor educational and public interest programs or other activities in the fields of law, government, history and public affairs in order to promote a greater public understanding of Chief Justice John Marshall and his many contributions to America's judiciary. Equally important, the foundation strives to support the preservation of well-maintained sites related to the life and legacy of John Marshall. Very influential in both Virginia and the nation, Mr. Marshall resided in Richmond during his 35 years on the Supreme Court.

One of the most complicated and fascinating cases in which Mr. Miller was counsel involved the famous Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska. Including trips by him to Alaskan fishing villages, it was an intense experience that resulted in a very substantial settlement agreed to by Exxon.

Mr. Miller has served as the vice chairman of the Virginia Board of Corrections, a member of the advisory board of Americans for Effective Law Enforcement and a trustee for Kings College, among other posts.

A member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association from 1971 to 1976 and an elected fellow of the American Bar Foundation, Mr. Miller was former vice chairman and chairman of the Southern Conference Attorneys General. He is a former executive committee member and chairman of the antitrust committee of the National Association of Attorneys General and a former board of directors and executive committee member of the American Judicature Society, among other organizations. Notably, in 1976, the National Association of Attorneys General awarded Mr. Miller its Wyman Memorial Award for service to the Association.

Earning an undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, at Princeton University in 1954, Mr. Miller pursued postgraduate work at Oxford University's New College between 1954-55. He received a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Virginia in 1960. In between, Mr. Miller served as a first lieutenant in the United States Army in Korea between 1955 and 1957.

Mr. Miller is the son of Democratic gubernatorial candidate and United States Senate candidate Francis Pickens Miller, and journalist and biographer, Helen Hill Miller. Married since 1990 to Penelope Farthing, he is the proud father of their two children, Winfield Scott and Lucy Holcombe. Looking toward the future, Mr. Miller looks forward to cementing his legacy as a respected and versatile figure in the field of law and public policy.

He is currently navigating the legal and political schools of a project to bring Admiral Dewey's flagship, the U.S.S. Olympia, to Washington to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of its transport of the Unknown Soldier from Europe to the United States in 1921. Mr. Miller is also working with senior law enforcement officials, both state and federal, to create "Public Safety Cadets". This national non-profit will urge police and sheriff's departments to recruit, from within their jurisdictions, men and women under twenty-one who express an interest in a career in law enforcement. The expectation is that many such persons, as a consequence of the education and training received as cadets, will exercise that option – resulting in the enhanced administration of justice in their home communities and elsewhere.
