Since 1981, Mrs. Ingrao has been the Vice President of Ingrao, Inc., an interior design and architectural firm founded by her son, Anthony. Additionally, she was President of D'Angelo Couture, Inc. also known previously as D'Angelo Int'l. Inc. from 1981 to 2014. Prior to this, she served as an Administrator and President of D'Angelo Originals Ltd. and D'Angelo Suits and Coats, Inc. in New York City from 1975.
Mrs. Ingrao has been recognized for her endeavors in the fashion industry several times. In 2010, Prabal Gurung listed her as an "Unsung Fashion Hero". In 2011, Derek Evers wrote an article for Afingo titled "Get it Made in New York: Gloria Ingrao" and in 2017 she was invited to attend a dedication to the Fashion Industry on Broadway where her name and those of her former employees were inscribed on the road to be preserved before it was to be covered up to form an Urban Pathway.
The garment manufacturing company was originally founded by Mrs. Ingrao's uncle, Biagio D'Angelo and her father, Nicholas D'Angelo in 1909, as immigrants from Italy, at the ages of 17 and 14 respectively. Her father left the company to join the American Army to fight in World War I and while he was away his brother employed her mother. When her father returned in 1919, her parents met, fell in love and married.
After World War II, her uncle continued manufacturing on his own, but her father shifted his interests to producing as a contractor for designers. At first, he and a partner produced for Jo Copeland. Later, together with his wife, he continued to produce tailored garments for other designers. When Mrs. Ingrao's father became ill, her mother continued the business with the help of her daughters, Marie Leff and Gloria Ingrao. Over the years they produced tailored garments for other designers such as Norman Norell, Pauline Trigere, Halston, Donald Brooks, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Maurice Rentner, Inc., which later became Bill Blass. Bill Blass, Ltd. considered D'Angelo a "registered contractor" for their suits and coats. In that capacity, they made suits for many celebrities. Later on, when Bill Blass went out of business, the company produced for other designers such as Carolina Herrera, Ralph Rucci and Prabal Gurung.
Before entering the fashion industry, Mrs. Ingrao was a substitute teacher for the Pelham, NY schools from 1968 to 1975. She was also the accountant for the law firm, Smith, Ranscht, Mitchell & Croake in White Plains, from 1950 to 1954.
Mrs. Ingrao graduated from the College of Mount St. Vincent in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. She continued her studies years later when her children were young in a program conducted by NYU and Sarah Lawrence College called "Continuing Education" from which she earned an M.A. in Elementary Education in 1968 and became a Certified Elementary Education Teacher.
Though Mrs. Ingrao kept busy with the family business, she always found time to be involved in her community in many ways. She was Secretary-Treasurer of the Chester Heights Ladies Civic Organization, member of the Columbiettes, Mothers Societies of Iona Prep School, Holy Child School, Good Counsel Academy, St. Catharine's Mothers' Society, American Red Cross, Community Chest, Fund Raiser for the College of Mount St. Vincent Alumnae Association, Annual March of Dimes, and Representative of St. Catharine's Church in the Sound Shore Vicariate of the Diocese of the Roman Catholic Churches of Lower Westchester. She was also a Trustee of St. Catharine's Church in Pelham, NY. Through her business, she was a member of the American Cloak and Suit Manufacturers Association.
Though Mrs. Ingrao was always kept busy with her career and other interests, she considers marrying her late husband, Joseph, and raising her three children, Nannette, Anthony and Angela, to be the highlights of her life.
