Loretta Tonak acted as the vice president of elementary music with the Wyoming Music Educators Association from 1995 to 1997, which presented her with the 25 Year Award in 1998.
SHERIDAN, WY, October 29, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Loretta Tonak with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Tonak celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Since 2007, Ms. Tonak has taught elementary music at Holy Name Catholic School in Sheridan, Wyoming. Before taking on this role, she taught middle school band in Sheridan County School District 2 in Sheridan, Wyoming, for 11 years. Nine years prior to holding this position, she served Crook County School District 1 in Sundance, Wyoming, as an elementary music teacher. She held this same role in Washakie County Schools in Worland, Wyoming, from 1986 to 1987.
The first professional roles Ms. Tonak held were as a music elementary teacher and an art teacher for grades 7-12 at the Clark School District in Clark, South Dakota, from 1973 to 1986. Aside from these primary endeavors, she served Sheridan College in the Northern Wyoming Community College District as an accompanist and was a children's librarian at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library. Throughout her career, the highlight that stands out is maintaining relationships with former students over the years. She notes that several of her former students became music educators themselves.
When she was a student herself, Ms. Tonak was inspired by an elementary school teacher. She wanted to be just like her and so she decided on teaching as a profession. She pursued a formal education at Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota, where she received a Bachelor of Science in 1973. While at school, she was inspired by a professor to go into music education. Since 1973, she has completed over 60 postgraduate credit hours at numerous colleges. Additionally, she is certified to teach in South Dakota and Wyoming.
Civically, Ms. Tonak has been an accompanist for many community, college and high school theater productions. She also holds membership in the Association of American Educators, the National Association for Music Education and Delta Kappa Gamma, where she serves as the chapter president and state music chairperson. She acted as the vice president of elementary music with the Wyoming Music Educators Association from 1995 to 1997, which presented her with the 25 Year Award in 1998.
Other awards received for her many accomplishments include the Smart Classroom grant in 2000. Aside from her professional passions, she enjoys playing the piano for pleasure and work, quilting, reading, traveling and attending the theater. She previously has been featured in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education.
