After working for many years in the field of education, Mrs. Parden retired from her position with the Mobile County Public Schools in 2008. She started in the field with the Escambia County School Board as a fourth and fifth grade teacher. Throughout her career, she worked with a range of elementary school-aged children in Mobile County Public Schools in Alabama. During her time with the inner city schools, she became active in the Mobile County Education Association. Her affiliation with the local education association opened doors for her within the Alabama and National Education Associations as well. In Pensacola, Mrs. Parden substituted for three years and spent one year teaching at the Navy Point Elementary School for a combined 3rd, 4th and 5th grade class. After moving to Mobile, AL, she was also working at McRae's Department Store part-time.
Prior to starting her lifelong career in teaching, Mrs. Parden earned an Associate of Arts from Pensacola Junior College. Subsequently, she furthered her education, obtaining a Bachelor of Science from the University of West Florida and a Master of Education from the University of South Alabama. A member of the Association of Classroom Teachers, she has been awarded on many occasions for her work in the field. In addition to being named One of 2,000 Outstanding People of the 20th Century in 1995 and 1996, she has also been recognized as one of 2,000 Notable American Women. Additionally, she has been honored with inclusion into professional publications such as Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women. In the coming years, Mrs. Parden intends to enjoy her retirement.
