Robert E. McCorkle Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Robert E. McCorkle received the Peace Corps Lifetime Contribution Award in recognition of his service to the Peace Corps.

    LOS OSOS, CA, October 26, 2018, Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Robert E. McCorkle with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Prof. McCorkle celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Since 1970, Prof. McCorkle has been a partner and corporate secretary at McCorkle Farms Inc. Additionally, he has been recognized as professor emeritus at California Polytechnic State University since 2001. He was the chief farm management officer and secretary of the technical planning committee for the Ministry of Agriculture in Lusaka, Zambia from 1967 to 1969. He was author of a "Guide for Farming in Zambia" published in 1968 and many other publications. McCorkle has contributed to many international projects which improved the food security for sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

Prof. McCorkle worked in the agribusiness department at California Polytechnic State University from 1962 to 2015. He served as director of international education at Cal Poly from 1970 to 1974. He began his career as a research statistician with the University of California, Davis from 1960 to 1962.

Prof. McCorkle also held the role of visiting professor at Michigan State University from 1984 to 1985, while he was involved with the U.S. Agency for International Development in Washington, D.C. and was the agricultural economist for the U.S. AID-REDSO ESA in Nairobi, Kenya.
Raised in ranching and farming, Prof. McCorkle and his brothers initially gained expertise in farming and ranching in the Salinas and Sacramento Valleys. Following these experiences, he pursued academics at California Polytechnic State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in farm management. He continued his studies at the University of California, Davis, where he received a Master of Science in agriculture economics in 1962. He then completed postgraduate work at Oregon State University 1966 and in agricultural economic development at the University of Wisconsin in 1969.

Prof. McCorkle was administrator of the U.S. Peace Corps strategy contract from Washington, D.C. for 35 years. He received the Peace Corps Lifetime Contribution Award in recognition of his service to the Peace Corps. Cal Poly received a coveted Peace Pole in recognition of serving volunteers.

Civically, he was the president of the Cabrillo Property Owners Association in Los Osos, CA from 1976 to 1978. Prof. McCorkle is a member of the Board of Trustees and serves on the Vestry for the parish of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Prof. McCorkle remains involved in the field as a member of the American Agricultural Economics Association, the American Society for Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, the Western Agricultural Economics Association, and the California Farm Bureau. Other organizations in which he holds membership include the California Polytechnic Alumni Association, Blue Key, Golden Key and the National Agricultural Professional Fraternity of Alpha Zeta having held the office of High Council Scribe. He advised Cal Poly's Alpha Zeta students for more than 50 years. For his involvement in Agriculture, he was inducted into the Centennial Honor Roll.

Prof. McCorkle has previously been featured in Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World. His wife of 54 years, Mary, retired as a journalism professor from Cuesta College. They are the proud parents of two daughters named Bonnie Kathleen and Robyn Krystyna.
