Ronald David Ropp, DMin, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, the Rev. In 1962 Rev. Dr. Ropp began his career as Pastor of the Mennonite Community Church in Fresno, California, before becoming Assistant Pastor at the First Mennonite Church of Upland, California. In 1970, he was named Director of the Department of Pastoral Care at Mennonite Hospital in Bloomington, Illinois. In 1977 he became Director of Pastoral Services and Counseling.
In 1981, he was named Vice President of The Illinois Pastoral Services Institute, a division of Mennonite Healthcare, later becoming BroMenn Healthcare and presently Advocate BroMenn Healthcare Systems. In 1993 he took the position of Administrator for BroMenn Counseling Services, now Twin Cities Behavioral Health. In 1996 he began Pastoral Counseling ministry at the Campus Religious Center at Illinois State University, a position he held until 2010. During this time, he also served as Assistant Professor in the Sociology Department teaching courses in 'Death and Dying' and 'Gerontology.'
Prior to commencing his professional career, the Rev. Dr. Ropp received a Bachelor of Science from Bluffton College in Ohio in 1958, now Bluffton University. He continued his studies at the Mennonite Biblical Seminary, now the Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana, earning both a Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Divinity in 1962. In 1970 he completed a Doctor of Religion from the School of Theology at Claremont, California.
The Rev. Dr. Ropp has served on the American Protestant Hospital Association's Board of Trustees, Strategic Long Range Planning Committee, Coordinating Council, and Council on Religion and Health. He was also a Board Member and President of the Mennonite Health Association. He was a Fellow in the College of Chaplains, now the Association of Professional Chaplains, and served various leadership roles, including President in 1982-83. He was also a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. From 1997 through 2012 he served as a promoter and consultant to Churches on Healthcare Ministries. He has served on various church and local committees and boards.
Outside of his career, he is the founding member and President of Barn Keepers, living in the barn his great grandfather built in 1873; an organization dedicated to promoting the appreciation, preservation and rehabilitation of barns. He has served as a member and consultant to the Anabaptist Disabilities Network, and served on the Board of the Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging.
Rev. Dr. Ropp has been the recipient of several professional and personal honors. He was awarded the Retired Chaplain and Collegiality Awards from The College of Chaplains, In 2005 he was awarded the Distinguished Service award from the Chester White Swine Association, and in 1982 the Chapter Farmer Award from the Illinois FFA Association. In 2018 a scholarship in his name was awarded by the Mclean County Youth Animal Agriculture Group in light of his exceptional undertakings. Rev. Dr. Ropp was selected for inclusion in the 65th edition of Who's Who in America.
