Dr. Stanley R. Wilkinson was elected Fellow in both the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil and Water Conservation Society of America.

Inspired by his family, who ran a dairy farm during his formative years, Dr. Wilkinson has accumulated several decades' worth of experience in pasture management research. He prepared for his career by earning a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University in 1954, following this accomplishment with a Master of Science from Purdue University in 1956 and a Doctor of Philosophy from Purdue University in 1961. Now retired, Dr. Wilkinson started out as a soil scientist for the U.S. Regional Pasture Research Laboratory, where he worked from 1960 to 1964. In 1965, he moved on to work as a soil scientist for the Southern Piedmont Conservation Research Center, a position he retained until his work for the same as a J.Phil Campbell Natural Resource research and education center research scientist in 1998.
A known professional in his field, Dr. Wilkinson has contributed more than 145 articles to relevant technical journals and has written more than 22 book chapters. He led research teams which have established environmentally safe soil-plant-animal practices which more effectively use climate resources of the Southern Piedmont by interplanting cool season grasses into warm season grass fields. Their team research also determined the level of poultry manure application to tall fescue pastures considered safe from animal health and adverse environmental concerns. Demonstrating skill and excellence in an array of areas, he was the recipient of a Third Prize Award from the Freedoms Foundation in 1956. Dr. Wilkinson also served the military before embarking upon his career in agronomics, serving to captain in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1964.
Interested in remaining aware of professional developments, Dr. Wilkinson maintains memberships with such organizations as the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil and Water Conservation Society of America. He was elected Fellow in both societies. His distinguished career has been marked by notable instances of travel, and he attributes his professional success to people who reached out when he needed help. Dr. Wilkinson has served as local chairman for Eagle Scout Awards for the BSA alongside his occupational activities. He is a lifelong Methodist and has taught Sunday School for over 50 years.
