With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Guymon has been recognized as professor emeritus of the University of California, Irvine, since 1994. Prior to his retirement, he was a professor with the school from 1974 to 1994, also serving as chair of the department of civil engineering from 1984 to 1988. From 1971 to 1974, he was an associate professor with the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and from 1969 to 1971, he was an assistant research engineer with the University of California, Davis. Earlier in his career, Dr. Guymon was an engineer with the California Department of Water Resources from 1955 to 1966.
Dr. Guymon was inspired to pursue a career in the field by his high school geometry teacher, Mr. Buckley. Finding that he enjoyed working in mathematics and engineering, he found that civil engineering was a natural fit for his talents. He began his career as a student at the University of California, Davis, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1966. He continued his studies with the school, completing a Master of Science in 1967. Dr. Guymon concluded his studies with the institution in 1970, earning a Doctor of Philosophy.
A respected voice in the field, Dr. Guymon has been affiliated with a number of organizations in his community. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Tau Beta Pi and Chi Epsilon. The author of "Unsaturated Zone Hydrology," he was an associate editor for "Advances in Water Resources" and he has contributed numerous articles to professional journals.
Throughout his career, Dr. Guymon has been honored for his achievements. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the West.
